I hesitate to call myself an "artist", preferring "painter." I consider Vermeer, Rafael, Monet, Sargent, and Hopper "artists" and I am uncomfortable using the word to describe myself. I first picked up a paint brush in 2003, and I have not received formal training at an art school. Instead, I continue to learn from other painters informally and at workshops. I continue to experiment and I have not yet found a particular style or subject that I wish to focus on. I have, however, been seduced by the lovely, buttery texture of oil paint, and it is my preferred medium. |
